Carmen Jimenez and Orchestra

Carmen Jimenez

Carmen's Website

Carmen's got a wonderfully laid back voice and great songs. Wonder why she hasn't made it commercially.

Grupo Niche

Un Alto en el Camino (alternate title: Las Tres son Caribe)

buy album

Packed with hits. A bit on the sweet side but their best. Along with Grupo Gale, Niche plays some of the best Columbian Salsa there is.

Jose Alberto

Herido

buy album

Tight, killer dance tracks. Jose from the Domincan Republic is a brilliant musician who's been around for ages.

Ray Sepulveda

Salsabor

buy album

Great tunes, not very danceable.

Africando

Mandali

buy album

Africa's all star Salsa band. They don't sing Spanish, but they're great to get the dance-floor sizzling. Nice tunes too.

Adolescent's Orquesta

Millenium Hits

buy album

These guys from Venezuela have churned out an amazing number of hits, and they're almost all here. Medium danceablility.

Frankie Ruiz

20 Exitos, Vol.1 & Vol. 2

buy album

Frankie, who's unfortunately not among us anymore, had a great grainy, hoarse voice with marvelous tunes to match. Most of the songs are classics. Not very danceable.

Pochi y su Cocoband

El Arrollador

buy album

This is an oldie (1992) but has loads of great Merengue and Salsa from this bouncy group from the Dominican Republic. The song "Salsa con Coco" is a classic.

Manolito y su Trabuco

Marcando la Distancia

No Salsa compilation could be complete without this Cuban killer dance floor-classic.
